Fender Mark Hoppus Jazz Bass

The Mark Hoppus jazz bass was introduced by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation in 2000. It was first seen in the blink-182 music video for "Adam's Song" in red color. It has a Fender Jazz Bass body and Fender Precision Bass neck and pickups. The strings are also body-through the volume is controlled by a lone volume pot instead of three.

First Model & Design

In 2000 the bass came out in Surf Green and Daphne Blue (both with pearloid pickguards). After one year, it came out in Olympic White as seen in the music video for "First Date". This shell pink colour was only made for 2 years, and it is now a collectors item, and can only be found on eBay. Mark had a custom made Hot Pink bass, which had skull and crossbone mother of pearl inlays stopping at the 12th fret. Mark decorated the bass with, at most three stickers, most notably the Blink 182 smiley face in the upper corner of the bass. This colour was the most famous and the pink bass was used until +44's first show. When it was brought to market, in 2002, two new colours were adjusted, Black and Olympic White, both with solid black pickguards that can be seen in later videos such as the Down performance on the 2004 Teen Choice Awards. Mark also had a custom 'plaid' bass, which can be seen in few photos, and in some footage on Youtube. This bass is, most probably, his rarest. The other colours which he has been seen playing are red and yellow. The bass is also fitted with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder SPB-3's.

New Model & Design

In 2006, after the hiatus of Blink-182 and starting +44, some changes were made on the bass model. Three new colours have been produced which inlcude See Through Blonde, Sunburst, and Olympic White, all with tortoise shell pearloid pickguards. The pickups are still inverted seymour-duncan precision bass quarter pound pickups, but they have been reversed in order to give a thicker sound to the D and G string as according to Hoppus. The body on the new model is lighter because it is made of Ash instead of Alder. This version is not yet available to the public for purchase, but Mark has posted a picture of one of the variations on his MySpace.
